Transport Network

This section details the configurations and images of the entire transport infrastructure of the network. First, a general diagram is presented, illustrating the project's transport architecture in a simplified way. Then, a more detailed explanation is provided of all key network components, such as ROADMs, optical fiber connections, routers, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, which ensure efficient signal transport between the different elements.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the Internet uplink connection is provided through UPCnet via its dedicated router.

General Transport Diagram

Nokia 1830 PSS 16II

  • Capacity: Up to 16 slots for optical cards (xponders, WSS, mux/demux, etc.).

  • Key Features:

    • Higher optical switching capacity.

    • Ideal for scenarios requiring high flexibility and bandwidth.

    • Can host more channels and advanced interfaces (e.g. more WSS for reconfigurable ROADM).

    • Supports dynamic channel reconfiguration and optical protection.

Nokia 1830 PSS 8

Nokia 1830 PSS 8

  • Capacity: Up to 8 slots, half the capacity of the PSS-16II.

  • Key Features:

    • Smaller size and lower power consumption.

    • Still compatible with the same functional cards (WSS, xponder), but in fewer quantities.

    • Used when ROADM functionality is needed but not high capacity.

Nokia 7250 IXR

Nokia 7250 IXR

This is a carrier-grade IP/MPLS router, designed to integrate high-capacity networks with differentiated services.

  • Main Function: IP routing, traffic segmentation, and management of transport protocols (MPLS, QoS, VRF).

  • Usage: Serves as a bridge between the optical network and the IP/Internet network or core services.

FS Layer 3 Switch NC8200-4TD

FS Layer 3 Switch NC8200-4TD

This is a modular Layer 3 switch with high performance.

  • Main Function: Switching and routing within the data center or between network segments.

  • Features: Supports BGP/OSPF, VLANs, VRFs, and static/dynamic routing.

FS Layer 2 Switch N5860-48SC

FS Layer 2 Switch N5860-48SC

This is a Layer 2 switch with high SFP+ port density.

  • Main Function: Basic Ethernet switching (without routing).

  • Use: Connecting optical devices such as ROADM, BBU, or other switches within a local topology.
